How to Play Guitar Hero 3: Becoming the Legend

Playing Guitar Hero 3 is quite as enjoyable as its predecessors, and as the game gets more difficult the more you want to beat your opponents and be the master in the end. But how can you do that? The first tip would of course be practice, practice and more practice. But along with practice, you must get yourself a good strategy in order to win the game. Hence, here are some tips and tricks in becoming a better Guitar Hero player.

First, take control of the guitar. Controlling means holding the frets, hence if you are right-handed, then you must control the frets using your left hand. Meanwhile, if you are a lefty, then you can play with the buttons using your right hand and strum with your left (using the pick).

By mastering which hand should you use on strumming and holding the frets, it would then be easier for you to navigate across the game play screen since you will be hitting on the same buttons in order to select and start your game. In Guitar Hero 3, you move the menu screens up and down by strumming the pick, and select by pressing on the Green button on the fret. To cancel you hit the Red button, and to leave the game and enter the menu, hit Start. There are four difficulty levels in Guitar Hero 3, namely, Easy, Medium, Difficult and Expert.

Among the most important counters you must monitor in playing Guitar Hero is the Rock Meter. The Rock Meter measures your performance level; if you hit the right notes the counter moves towards the green section, but when miss the notes, your performance level becomes red. Going too far into the red section would mean that you are failing the song have to do it all over again.

Another counter you should check is the Score Meter. In Guitar Hero 3, your score increases when you get the right notes, and your score will not decrease when you miss notes. When you hit 10 correct consecutive notes, your score is doubled. Twenty correct notes meanwhile will triple your score, and 30 in a row multiplies your score four times.

Learn to use Star Power. In becoming a Guitar Hero legend you must know how to use the Star Power. Build your star power by hitting on the notes underlined with stars. When your Star Power meter is at least half-full, you can then raise your guitar controller vertically to have it activated. Star Power doubles your incoming points, and as well increases your Rock Meter level.

Master chord progression. One effective in mastering Guitar Hero 3 is by keeping your fingers at the same place. You easily work on hand and eye coordination when your brain knows which finger should hit the right color. It also speeds up your moves. The ideal finger-button association is: pinky (blue), ring finger (yellow), middle finger (red), and index finger (green). When you see an orange note, you must hit the orange button using all your fingers.

Hammer-ons. A hammer-on is a method where you play two to four notes quickly by just one strum of your pick. In Guitar Hero 3, hammer-ons can be done on notes that don't have black rings. Also, try to practice strumming up and down so you can catch those notes that are so close in succession. This helps increase both your Rock Meter and Star Power, giving you more points.

Play against the Power Icons. During the game, you can play against musicians such as Lou, Slash and Tom Morello. Your objective here is to make them fail the game before the song ends. What you have to do then is to play the “battle gem” notes successfully so that you earn weapons you can use to sabotage their game, such as: broken string, amp overload, double notes, lefty flip, steal, and death drain. Using these weapons on them correctly can get them off the game and of course, make you a true guitar hero.
