GH3 - Crash Course on Playing Guitar Hero 3
A lot of fans of the hit video game series Guitar Hero have noticed
new and more interactive changes in Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, but
at the same time they learned to love this third instalment. Some novice
players find the game a little too difficult to handle at first, but
eventually they learned the ins and outs of the game too. Thus, to all
new Guitar Hero 3 fanatics who want to get started in playing the game
and becoming the next rock superstar, then here are the important
pointers that you must remember.

1. Holding the Guitar Hero Controller
The first thing you should know on how to play Guitar Hero 3 is how
to hold the game’s specially designed controller. There are five buttons
found on the controller, and they serve as the frets. These buttons are
represented by five different colors and must by played by the left
hand. To left-handed players, you can also play the frets with your
right hand. Just be sure to switch to “Lefty Mode” before starting the
game. The “Lefty Mode” can be found in the Settings Menu.
You will also have the pick to strum up and down using your dominant
hand.
2. Using the Guitar Hero Controller
Using the wireless Guitar Hero Controller, press the START button to
turn start the game.
To navigate in the menu screens, stroke the controller up or down using
the pick. You can choose a setting using the Green fret button, or
cancel by hitting the red fret. If you want to leave Game Play and go to
the menu, then just hit START.
How to Use the Guitar Hero Controller during Game Play
Your main goal here is to hit each and every note as it approaches the
bottom of the screen. In order to do this correctly, you have to hit the
right color with your left hand and strum the pick right when the note
goes down the screen. You can score the right notes by hitting the right
fret buttons early, just be sure to strum on time. If you see notes of
the same color running one after another, then you can hold down the
designated fret button for the duration so all you have to do is strum
on time.
3. Choosing Difficulty Levels
You can choose from four difficulty levels in this game, namely Easy,
Medium, Hard and Expert. In the Easy level, you will be hitting three
buttons, red, yellow and green. In the Medium level, you will be using
the buttons red, green, blue and yellow, and as well as two note chords.
In the Hard level meanwhile, you will be using all five buttons with
three note chords. Finally, in the Expert level, you still will be using
all five frets, and three note chords in which each note gets played.
For beginners, it is best to start in the Easy level, however, for those
who do play a guitar in real life, you can go ahead and proceed to the
Medium level. It also takes practice when playing the game, so don’t get
frustrated if you don’t hit the notes right during your first try. It’s
also helpful to select the songs you know, but if you don’t know any,
then pick a song that has a strong rhythm.
4. Stats Meter
There are meters that gauge your performance and scores in the game,
and they are:
- Rock Meter-it moves from red to green based on how well you
played during the game. The meter moves to the green side when you
constantly hit the right notes, and moves to red when you start
missing or playing incorrect notes.
- Score Meter-of course, when you hit the right notes, your score
increases! Playing 10 consecutive right notes will earn you a 2x on
your score, while 20 consecutive correct hits will give you 3x. For
playing for 30 straight correct notes, you get 4x.
- Star Power-you can get star power by scoring several points
during a song, especially when a stream of notes with blue stars
arrives on your screen. By hitting them right you get one “amp tube”
worth of star power. Three “amp tubes” will activate your star
power, and once this is activated, all the notes you will play will
appear in blue. Star power hence doubles your incoming scores while
at the same time improve your rock meter.
